Chinese businessman shot dead by riding-in-tandem in Zamboanga

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - A local Chinese businessman was gunned down by a riding-in-tandem assailants Friday morning near the downtown area of this city, according to police.

The police identified the slain victim as Philip Jacinto Lim, 53, proprietor of Unicon Enterprises that deals with engines, equipment and hardware products along Gov. Wood Street.

Police Chief Inspector Joel Tuttuh, spokesman of Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO), said Lim was gunned down shortly before 7 a.m. near the junction of Veterans Avenue and Campaner Street.

Tuttuh said the victim was driving a motorcycle on his way to his shop when he was shot.

The suspects managed to immediately escape riding their motorcycle.

Lim was rushed to the Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) for treatment but died before reaching the hospital.

Tuttuh said police investigators are looking into business conflict as one of the motives for the killing, following claims from the victim’s family that Lim had no enemy.
