The Philippine Star

BATANGAS, Philippines – The Philippine Coast Guard seized boxes of illegal firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices at the Batangas Port in Batangas City, authorities said yesterday.

PCG-Batangas chief Capt. Gregorio Adel Jr. said his men, together with Philippine Ports Authority police and security guards of the Asian Terminals Inc.,  were inspecting the PPA passenger terminal when their dog, sat in front of the boxes.

Authorities discovered that the boxes contained fireworks and pyrotechnic devices.

“The boxes contained different types of firecrackers with an estimated value of P159,500,” Adel said.

He said the owner of the shipment abandoned the cargo to avoid reprisal. Investigators said the cargo was bound for Mindoro or Western Visayas.
