Kalinga gets P55-M fund from peace program

Artemio Dumlao - The Philippine Star

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – At least P55 million additional funds from the Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (Pamana) program of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) was allocated to the province of Kalinga this year.

Community development projects under Pamana aim to bring progress to areas vulnerable to and affected by armed conflicts.

The projects are located in Tinglayan town, according to Francisco Gamatero of the Department of the Interior and Local Government-Kalinga.

Gamatero said the funds were part of the gains derived from the peace accord forged between the government and the rebel-turned-militia group Cordillera People’s Liberation Army.

The funds will be used to build roads that will connect the villages in Tinglayan to the national highway and boost agricultural production.

Municipal engineer Basilio Chulsi Jr. said one project has been completed, five are ongoing and another has yet to be started.
