DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The province of Compostela Valley is expected to attain a higher rice production after more than 500 farmers from 11 municipalities joined the First Provincial Rice Congress recently.
Gov. Arthur Uy led the event that aims to improve not only the quantity, but also the quality of rice produced in the province.
A hybrid rice derby area has been established in Barangay Lagab, Compostela town to help farmers improve their produce.
Farmers were also taught to implement high yield technology adoption projects, which aims to distribute high quality seeds to the beneficiaries.
Compostela Mayor Lema Bolo said a higher yield would assure them of enough supply and lower rice prices.
“We can help maintain Mindanao being the food basket of our country and by producing high-yielding rice varieties, we can make Compostela Valley become one of the country’s top rice producers.
