MALOLOS, Philippines – The provincial government of Bulacan has ordered the police to step up security in the province and ensure that nothing would disrupt the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Manila.
Gov. Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado reminded the police that Bulacan is the gateway to Metro Manila from the north, and should therefore be closely watched to prevent hostile forces from disrupting the event.
Alvarado issued the order amid the recent killing of Judge Wilfredo Nieves in Malolos on Wednesday and the discovery of five bodies with gunshot wounds in Baliwag town.
He said even President Aquino himself is checking the venues for the meeting of the world leaders.
“We must help our President secure the APEC event,” Alvarado said adding he ordered provincial police director Senior Superintendent Ferdinand Divina and other law enforcement agencies to step up police visibility.
