CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – The regional office of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is ready to serve the dismissal order issued by the Office of the Ombudsman against Mayor Oscar Moreno, an official said yesterday.
Nilo Castañes, director of DILG-Northern Mindanao, said he is waiting for the order as he only learned about it from the media.
Castañes said he would implement the dismissal once the DILG orders him to do so.
The ombudsman on Thursday announced Moreno’s dismissal for entering into a tax settlement deal with a private company without the permission of the city council.
Moreno said he has yet to receive the order, which he described as “harsh and a miscarriage of justice.”
He said he would file a motion for reconsideration with the Office of the Ombudsman and a restraining order with the Court of Appeals.
Aside from Moreno, two other mayors from Mindanao were dismissed for administrative offenses.
