PWDs, elderly, pregnant women exempted from traffic restrictions

Rudy Fernandez - The Philippine Star

LOS BAÑOS, Laguna, Philippines – The municipal government is exempting elderly citizens, pregnant women and persons with disabilities from traffic restrictions.

The Sangguniang Bayan recently passed an ordinance allowing these persons to alight from public vehicles in areas designated as “no-loading and unloading” zones.

Authored by Councilor Benedicto Alborida, the measure requires more traffic police officers to enforce the ordinance.

The municipal council has passed several measures prohibiting jaywalking in various parts of Los Baños, particularly along crossings leading to the University of the Philippines Los Baños and the cities of Sta. Cruz and San Pablo.

Traffic congestion has become a major problem here as the volume of vehicles multiplied and roads and highways remain the same.
