Fly-infested poultry farm shut down

Ramon Efren Lazaro - The Philippine Star

MARILAO, Bulacan, Philippines – A poultry farm in this town was closed down on Friday after residents complained of it becoming a breeding ground for flies.

Residents and owners of business establishments in the villages of Saog, Ibayo and Lias have filed a complaint with the municipal government of Marilao over the flies that have been pestering their communities for the past several months.

The residents said the flies pose a threat to their health while restaurants owners said they were losing their clients.

Municipal administrator Froilan Angeles identified the poultry farm as Primo Gan Poultry Farm and its owner as Primo Gan of Barangay Lias.

“The municipal government was compelled to issue a suspension order on the farm’s operations, until its owner complies with the sanitary requirement,” Angeles said, adding no criminal or civil complaint was filed against the farm owner.
