MANILA, Philippines - The Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental will soon become an international airport.
“Works are in progress for the start of a regional commercial operation,” Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines Area 10 airport manager Jose Budiongan said yesterday.
Budiongan said the airport, which started commercial operations in June 2013, has so far earned over P100 million.
He said the airport’s passenger and cargo terminals, including the parking lot, would be expanded.
The airport has a single 2,100 x 45 meter runway, which can accommodate four takeoffs and landings per hour and night landing capability using state-of-the art navigational equipment.
It operates an average of 22 flights a day to and from Manila, Iloilo, Davao and Cebu.
It is now the busiest airport in northern Mindanao, serving the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan and the provinces of Misamis Oriental and Lanao del Norte. – Louise Maureen Sison, Rudy Santos
