‘Hot meat’ traders nabbed in Bulacan
GUIGUINTO, Bulacan, Philippines – A businessman and his companion were arrested for possession of “double dead” meat in this town on Saturday.
Rock de Guia, 55, and Rolando Layug, 40, were collared following a raid on De Guia’s residence in Barangay Pritil that resulted in the recovery of two dead pigs, according to town police chief Superintendent Julius Ceasar Domingo.
The raid was based on information received by the police that an undetermined kilos of hot meat was delivered at De Guia’s home.
Municipal veterinary and agricultural officer Eduardo Jose confirmed that the pigs were “double dead” and ordered it destroyed.
Charges were being readied against the suspects for violating Republic Act 10536 or the Meat Inspection Code.
Penalties for violating the law included six to 12-years imprisonment and fine ranging from P100,000 to P1 million.
