6 nabbed for kin’s slay

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – Police arrested on Friday six members of a family tagged in the torture and murder of their relative in Claveria, Cagayan.

Marcelo Caligan, 43; his brother Jerry Caligan Sr., 51; Jerry’s sons Jerry Jr., 23, and Jerick, 21; and their cousins Kristian Arellano, 22, and Reynaldo dela Cruz, 35, were collared based on a warrant issued by  Judge Gema Bucayu-Madrid for murder.

No bail was recommended for all the accused.

Chief Inspector Manuel Viloria, chief of the Claveria police, said the suspects were tagged in the beheading of their relative, Melanio Tabag, last year.

The suspects reportedly threw the victim’s decapitated head in his farm in Barangay Pata West.

Viloria said land dispute was the motive for the killing.
