Wanted ‘rapist’ nabbed for theft
ILOILO CITY, Philippines – A man wanted for rape was arrested along with a companion after they broke into a boarding house in Jaro district in this city on Wednesday.
Police discovered that Nelmar Alemaña, 38, had a standing arrest warrant for rape filed with a local court in Dumangas town.
No bail was recommended for his liberty.
Chief Inspector Herbert Ballego, Jaro police chief, said Alemaña and an unidentified man barged into a boarding house on Lopez Jaena street at past midnight.
A student saw them and pretended to be sleeping as the suspects were going over her valuables.
When the robbers transferred to another room, the student informed her board mate, who called up the police.
Responding police officers found Alemaña hiding in a vacant room, while his companions managed to escape.
Ballego said the suspect tried to resist arrest and grabbed the firearm of a police officer.
Police recovered from Alemaña a mobile phone, a bonnet, a jacket, a pair of socks and a wig.
The victim’s netbook was missing. Police believe Alemaña’s companion took it.
