Peña leads workshop on Makati progress, city councilors absent

MANILA, Philippines - Makati acting mayor Romulo “Kid” Peña on Wednesday led city officials in the conduct of the annual Program and Review Planning Workshop (PRPW) at a resort and spa in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

In a statement by the Makati City government, the workshop that is being held at the Princesa Garden Resort and Spa will end on Oct. 2, 2015.

“It has been my long desire to participate in activities that tackles about sustaining the city’s progress and development, thus, I am very grateful for this opportunity,” Peña said.

Peña said the three-day PRPW will focus on the Ten Point Program and Smarter Makati Framework.

“Since my assumption of office three months ago, I have vowed to promote transparent governance as well as inclusive growth and development. For the rest of my tenure as acting city chief executive, I will make sure that I will always be guided by my Ten Point Program,” Peña said.

According to Peña, the city’s “Ten Point Program” focuses on Makati First Policy; Equitable distribution of Wealth; Community Housing and Community Development Program for the Less Fortunate; Enhance Benefits for the Elderly; and Sustainable Free Educational System, Environmental Protection, Climate Change and Disaster-Resilient City; Adequate Food and Guaranteed Jobs; Safe and Secure Environment; Responsive Governance; and Transparency and Public Accountability.

Peña said the activity also aims to present the three-year sectoral accomplishments and major programs, projects and activities of the city’s departments and offices for 2016. The city’s Smarter Makati framework will also be a part of the discussion during the planning session.

“I am hopeful that this activity yields brilliant plans that would contribute to our beloved city’s progress and development,” he said.

Peña said those attending the PRPW are department and division heads of the city hall as well as members of the City Council who are known supporters of suspended Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay.

However, in a text message to the STAR, Makati Councilor Mayeth Casal-Uy said members of the council would not be attending the Palawan workshop as they have a prior commitment.

“Hindi po. We have prior commitment po,” said Casal-Uy in a text message.
