2 die in Ifugao road mishap

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – A public school teacher and a municipal employee died when a mining firm’s pickup truck rolled over in Lamut, Ifugao on Tuesday night.

Roselyn Malingan, 28, of the Ifugao State University, and Wrenchelle Valenciano, 33, were declared dead on arrival at the Panopdopan District Hospital in Solano, Nueva Vizcaya, where their companions Lalaine Canlas Malingan, 24, and IFSU employee Willanie Tayaban, 24, were taken for  treatment.

Valenciano was an employee of the office the mayor of  Lamut.

Police said truck driver Esteban Bagiw lost control of the Toyota Hilux pickup (UGQ 257) owned by the OceanaGold Mining Corp. as the vehicle was traveling in Barangay Sanafe.

The victims were waiting for a ride when they were hit by the truck.

Bagiw was held at the Lamut police detention cell.
