MALOLOS, Philippines – The provincial government of Bulacan is appealing for the conduct of cloud-seeding operations to raise the water level in Angat Dam.
The dam, which supplies 97 percent of Metro Manila’s water needs, is below the normal level due to the dry spell.
Gov. Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado said this is the best time to conduct cloud-seeding, as clouds are abound over the dam reservoir.
As of yesterday morning, the water level was 189.60 meters, which is below the normal level of 200 meters.
Provincial agriculturist Ma. Gloria Carillo said the dam management is compelled to stop releasing water for Bulacan farmlands.
The farms depend on the Angat River system for irrigation.
The Angat Dam prioritizes the water supply for Metro Manila and power generation.
Alvarado said that while farmers are receiving irrigation supply from Bustos Dam, there is still a need to look for long-term solutions to address the irrigation needs of the province.
