DAVAO CITY, Philippines – To end speculations he will run for president, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte may seek reelection in next year’s polls.
At a press conference late Monday night, Duterte called on his supporters to call off what they dubbed as the “Million People Call” gathering at the Quirino Grandstand on Saturday to convince him to run for president.
He said the result of the latest Social Weather Station survey, where he remained at fourth place, would not make him change his mind about the presidency. He said he did not get any “message from God” that he should pursue it.
Duterte said he might seek reelection if his daughter Sara would not run for mayor. Sara had said she is still undecided.
“It is not my destiny to be president. The presidency does not appeal to me. I do not want it. I do not need it. It is still very true today. I have a good life, why spoil it,” he said.
He added he has no money to mount a presidential campaign.
“I do not want people to think that I am just awaiting for the right price. No, I am not and I won’t seek the presidency because in the first place, I cannot solve all the problems of this country,” Duterte said.
