Man stabs wife, 2 kids dead
SAN PEDRO CITY, Laguna, Philippines – A woman and her two children were stabbed dead by her partner following a quarrel at their home in Barangay Riverside here yesterday morning.
Gemmalyn Bederio, 30, and her children Shantal Mae, 4, and 6-month-old Jhoniel, were declared dead on arrival at the Narra Hospital, according to city police chief Superintendent Cecilio Ison.
Bederio’s two other children – Jhonuel Maraña, 3, and JanJan, 2 – were brought to the Philippine General Hospital in Manila for treatment of stab wounds.
The suspect, identified as Ruel Maraña, was also rushed to a hospital after he stabbed himself.
Ison said the suspect arrived home at around 6 a.m. from the wake of a neighbor, where he lost in a game of cards.
Witnesses said Bederio confronted Maraña for gambling, which resulted in a quarrel.
