Diver drowns in Batangas

The Philippine Star

BATANGAS, Philippines  – A 47-year-old scuba diver drowned as he was diving in Tingloy town in this province on Saturday afternoon.

David Deleon of Rockwell, Makati City and his fellow divers were at the Bahura Dive Site in Barangay Maricaban when the incident happened at around 12:45 p.m., according to town police chief Senior Inspector Ireneo Bajado.

“They were billeted in a resort in Mabini town and they went here by boat to dive without coordinating with us,” Bajado told The STAR.

Deleon’s companions said they were ascending from the sea when they noticed that Deleon was missing, prompting them to dive back.

They found Deleon some 89 feet below and rushed him to the Mabini General Hospital, where the victim was declared dead on arrival.

Bajado said the weather was fine and the sea was calm when the incident happened.
