NORTH COTABATO, Philippines – Police yesterday filed criminal charges against a banana plantation owner allegedly caught transporting firearms and a grenade in Magpet, North Cotabato.

Zaldy Pareja, 32, was brought to a police station in Magpet town by police officers who found the firearms in his vehicle.

The firearms were found under piles of bananas loaded in Pareja’s pickup truck.

Aside from a rifle, .45 caliber pistol and hand grenade, Pareja reportedly yielded communication gadgets.

Magpet police chief Senior Inspector Felix Fornan said Pareja failed to present documents showing his ownership of the guns.
