Suspect in Laguna couple’s slay nabbed

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – A suspect in the killing of a couple in this province was arrested in Cagayan on Wednesday.

Donald dela Rosa, alias Don-Don, was collared at his safehouse in Barangay Gabun, Lasam town by members of the Los Baños City and the municipal police, according to Laguna police director Senior Superintendent Florendo Saligao.

Saligao said Dela Rosa was reportedly the one who shot Merlito and Liezel Morales in Barangay Bayog, Los Baños on Monday.

Two witnesses identified Dela Rosa from the rogues’ gallery of the city police and through his social media account.

Saligao alleged that Dela Rosa, a former rent-a-car driver, was engaged in drug trafficking and contract killing.

One of the witnesses told investigators that the suspect was among three men who shot and hurled a grenade at the victims’ car.

Saligao said they are looking into drugs and business rivalry as among the motives for the killing.

The suspect has a pending homicide case in a court in Cagayan and was included in the 2011 drug list of the Lasam police.
