MANILA, Philippines - Former Rizal governor Casimiro Ynares Jr. yesterday welcomed the Office of the Ombudsman’s probe into his alleged involvement in the P728-million fertilizer fund scam.
Ynares issued the statement after the anti-graft agency found probable cause to indict him and another governor, two former mayors and 20 other individuals for the misuse of farm implements of the Department of Agriculture.
“This will give us the opportunity to bring out the truth at the proper forum,” he said.
Ynares said he trusts the fairness and objectivity of the country’s justice system.
“I’m confident that in the end, my colleagues and I shall be vindicated,” he said.
Aside from Ynares, also facing charges before the Sandiganbayan are former Masbate governor Antonio Kho, former Butuan City mayor Leonidas Theresa Plaza and former Buenavista, Agusan del Norte mayor Percianita Racho.
The other respondents include former and incumbent local government officials, members of bids and awards committees as well as private suppliers.
