Magnitude 4.1 quake rocks Surigao del Norte

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Monday reported a magnitude 4.1 earthquake that struck Surigao del Norte.

The quake which occurred at 8:22 p.m. was located 27 kilometers northeast of Burgos in Surigao del Norte. Its depth of focus is 19 kilometers.

In its advisory, Phivolcs said the tremor was felt at Intensity 4 in the towns of Burgos and General Luna, Surigao del Norte; Intensity 3 in Surigao City, Loreto, Dinagat Islands, Socorro, Surigao del Norte, and Intensity 2 in Mainit, Surigao del Norte.

Phivolcs said that although it was felt at intensity 4 in some areas, no damage was reported and there were no aftershocks recorded.

Two other quakes were recorded on Monday. The first quake with magnitude 3.9 occurred in Zamboanga City while the second tremor with magnitude 2.8 was traced in San Benito, Surigao del Norte.

On Tuesday morning another quake was reported. The magnitude 3 tremor was located in Paoay, Ilocos Norte.

In its bulletin, Phivolcs said all of the quakes recorded were tectonic in origin.
