9 nabbed for illegal fishing

ANDA, Pangasinan, Philippines – Nine fishermen were arrested by members of Bantay Dagat for allegedly fishing at a marine protected area in this town last Thursday.

Alfredo Laurentre, 41; Edmund Rique, 46; Ramon Unto, 25; Mark Anthony Manuel, 21; Mardy Aquino, 33; Arnel Caampued, 25; Manuel Manuel,42; Jimboy Carranza, 20, and Hector Rique,18, were arrested at around 3:30 a.m. near the coastal area of Barangay Tondol.

Seized from the fishermen were two motor bancas, spears, flashlights, foot paddles, diving masks and about 20 kilos of assorted fish.
