ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Three New People’s Army (NPA) rebels surrendered to the military in Guipos town, Zamboanga del Sur yesterday.
The rebels – identified as Erme Elnas alias James, Lodevico Jordan Nadal Jr. and Anselma Perez-Quijano alias Jelly – were said to be the propaganda experts of the NPA’s Western Mindanao Revolutionary Party Committee.
Lt. Col. Audi Mongao, spokesman for the Army’s 1st Division, said the rebels yielded a KG45 sub-machinegun and a caliber .45 pistol.
Mongao said the dwindling support of the masses for the communist movement prompted the three to surrender.
