Makoy’s birthday still special for Ilocanos

PAOAY, Ilocos Norte, Philippines – Long after his death, Ilocanos still mark the birthday of former President Ferdinand Marcos.

For his 98th birth anniversary on Sept. 11, Ilocos Norte will conduct various activities, including the Da Real Makoy literary and musical competition, a musical play, art contests and a relief caravan.

June Godoy, information officer of the provincial government, told The STAR the literary and musical contest is a fitting tribute to Marcos – an accomplished orator, debater and writer.

A musical play dubbed ”RAKENROL,” a story of love, strength and the perseverance of Ilocanos, will highlight this year’s celebration.

“In the past years, Da Real Makoy Concert drew thousands of Ilocanos. This time, the musical play will give a new life to the provincewide celebration of Marcos Fiesta,” said Elaine Lubguban, media incentives desk officer of the provincial government.

The musical is free and will be held on Sept. 11 at the Mariano Marcos State University’s Teatro Ilocandia.
