Kin of ex-AFP chief faces murder raps for QC shooting
MANILA, Philippines — The son of a retired Constabulary general and nephew of former Armed Forces chief Narciso Abaya is now facing murder charges after shooting dead a passenger of a UV Express van in Quezon City on Tuesday night.
Jose Abaya, son of former police general Antonio Abaya, has been indicted on Wednesday for shooting dead Jocelyn Santos who was one of the passengers of the UV service van.
Santos bore a gunshot wound to the head.
Chief Inspector Rodelio Marcelo, head of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit of the Quezon City Police District, said they would amend the charges against Abaya after wounded driver Ronebert Ycot died on Thursday morning.
Marcelo said that the murder charge will be amended to a double murder charge before the Office of Prosecutor Reynaldo Garcia.
Aside from two counts of murder, Abaya will also be facing frustrated murder and two counts of attempted murder and a illegal gun rap.
Another passenger, Duke Angelo David, was also wounded during the shooting.
Marcelo said detectives will invite Joseph See, the registered owner of the cal. 22 gun used by Abaya in shooting down the victims.
Abaya, reportedly paranoid as a result of his drug use, took a shot at the van while it was parked along Katipunan Extension as he thought that it was sent to transport him back to the rehabiltation center.
