MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Wednesday morning reported a magnitude 6.1 earthquake that rocked Sarangani, Davao Occidental.
The quake occurred at 9:18 a.m. with no reported intensities. Its epicenter was located 155 kilometers south west of Sarangani, Davao Occidental.
The tremor with depth of focus 312 kilometers did not cause any damage. However, in its advisory, Phivolcs said there are expected aftershocks.
Three other quakes were recorded by Phivolcs on Wednesday morning.
The first mild quake with magnitude 2 occurred at 12:50 a.m. in Tingloy Batangas while the second one with magnitude 3.5 jolted Basco, Batanes shortly after at 1:34 a.m.
The third quake reported with magnitude 2 was also traced in Tingloy, Batangas. It occurred around 1:41 a.m.
Phivolcs said the quakes recorded on Wednesday were determined to be tectonic in origin.
