Dennis Carcamo - Philstar.com
MANILA, Philippines - Five houses collapsed into a river on Monday night after non-stop  rains and strong current eroded the side of foundation where the structures were located in Marikina City.

No one was initially reported injured during the incident.

According to the report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), the incident involving five houses on Mirasol Street, Barangay Nangka, Marikina City happened around 11:30 p.m. Monday.

The NDRRMC report said that the foundation of the houses eroded due to the strong current of the Nangka River which was attributed to the heavy rains in the area.

Marikina City police chief Vincent Calanoga said that as early as Sunday, residents in the area have noticed the cracks on the walls of their houses.

He said that around 60 persons have been evacuated to Nangka Elementary School because of the incident.

Mayor Del De Guzman said that local officials continue to monitor the situation.

The cost of damage caused by the incident has yet to be determined as of this time.
