BATANGAS, Philippines – Five workers died while another was missing in a fire that hit a bakery in Taal town here at dawn yesterday.
The fire was caused by defective electrical wirings that exploded at about 2:30 a.m. in Barangay Bihis, according to Chief Inspector Apolinario Lunar, Taal police chief.
The flames spread to the second floor of the Raiylens Bakery, which was made of light materials.
A survivor identified as Gerry Paz told investigators that six of his fellow workers were trapped in the blaze.
Paz identified the six as Bea Lunaflor, Renelyn Teoxon, Ruffa Fortes, Rosebee Cadiong, Josie Afable and Jomarie Bernales.
Firefighters recovered only five cadavers, who have yet to be identified.
