Soldier killed in Davao clash
MANILA, Philippines - A soldier was killed and another was wounded in an encounter with suspected New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas in Davao Oriental on Wednesday.
Capt. Alberto Caber, public affairs office chief of the Eastern Mindanao Command, said the fatality was a member of the 67th Infantry Battalion.
Caber said the clash occurred in Barangay Binondo in Baganga town around 11 a.m.
In Compostela Valley, Army troopers conducting combat patrol and blocking operations captured a suspected NPA rebel at his hideout in Barangay Datu Davao in Laak town on Thursday. The troops also seized two M16s rifles from the rebel.
