MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno Aquino III flew to Cebu on Monday to inspect two major infrastructure projects of the administration.

Aquino inspected the rehabilitated Sergio Osmena Boulevard in Cebu City and the widening of the 28.18-kilometer Mactan Circumferential Road in Lapu-Lapu City this morning.

The Mactan Circumferential Road widening project aims to provide easy access from the Mactan International Airport to the various tourist spots in Cebu such as the Mactan Shrine.

Once completed, the project will shorten travel time between Cebu City and Mactan from 1.5 hours to one hour, benefiting 21,282 travelers daily.

Aquino was accompanied by Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Sec. Rogelio Singson, Transportation and Communications Secretary Joseph Abaya and Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III.

After the inspection, Aquino went to the DPWH regional office in Cebu City where he was briefed by Singson regarding the major infrastructure projects.

Later at 2 p.m., Aquino will be at the Cebu Coliseum for another "gathering of friends" that is expected to be attended by Liberal Party (LP) members and allies.

Aquino and Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas, the LP's standard-bearer, will deliver their speeches during the event.

There are about 8,000 expected attendees including various leaders from different political parties, representatives from civil society organizations and local chief executives of Central Visayas.
