Dennis Carcamo - Philstar.com
MANILA, Philippines - Three crew members of a passenger ship were hurt on Saturday after a fire broke out inside the vessel after docking at a port in Ormoc City, Leyte.

Capt. William Isaga, Philippine Coast Guard District-Eastern Visayas commander, said the three crewmen of MV Wonderful Stars were immediately rushed to the hospital for minor injuries.

None among the 544 passengers of the vessel were hurt during the blaze.

Reports said that the fire inside the ship, owned by Roble Shipping Inc., started around 4:20 a.m. after docking at the port in Ormoc.

The ship, one of the seven roll-on roll-off vessels owned by the company, just arrived from Cebu when the fire happened.

Witnesses later told authorities that they saw thick smoke billowing from the engine room while some claimed the smoke came from the quarters of the crew.

Arson investigators have yet to come up with an official statement regarding the cause of the fire.
