BATANGAS, Philippines – The Bureau of Customs has seized 14 luxury vehicles, which were reportedly undervalued, at a port in Batangas.
BOC Deputy Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno inspected the vehicles at the Asian Terminal Container Port yesterday. He identified the consignee as Monacat Trading Enterprises of Unit 2 Matic Building, National Highway, Barangay Canlalay in Biñan, Laguna.
Nepomuceno said the luxury vehicles include a 2015 McLaren 450c, a Land Rover LR2, two units of Land Rover Defender 90, two Mercedez Benz C200, two Mercedez Benz GLK350 and a 2015 Ferrari California.
He said the consignee declared the import value of the vehicles at P24 million.
“It’s potential smuggling. We have yet to get other data... we’re here to make sure that the ongoing investigation is in order,” Nepomuceno said.
When asked if the vehicle would be seized, Nepomuceno said it would depend on the amount of taxes paid by the importer.
He said the importer could be charged with violation of the Tariff and Customs Code. – Arnell Ozaeta, Evelyn Macairan
