Gerry Lee Gorit - The Philippine Star

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – A former councilor in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental was shot dead in Barangay Talisay Tuesday night.

Marc Anthony Bagaipo, 43, had just attended a religious  service at a wake when two unidentified men approached and shot him repeatedly, Senior Inspector Ismael Gondaya, Gingoog City police chief, said.

Gondaya said the victim could have known the suspects because he did not resist when they embraced him.

Bagaipo suffered three bullet wounds in the head and one in the body. He died on the way to a hospital in Cagayan de Oro City.

Cagayan de Oro City Gov.Yevgeny Vincente Emano refused to say if politics was the motive for the killing. Bagaipo was being groomed as a mayoral candidate in 2016.

“Marc was a very peaceful person. He had no known enemies,” Emano said.
