Quake rocks Central Visayas

Ghio Ong, Helen Flores - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A magnitude-3.2 earthquake rocked parts of Central Visayas yesterday.

State seismologists said the quake was an aftershock of a powerful tremor that hit the region in 2013.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake occurred at 7:54 a.m. Its epicenter was located 10 kilometers  southeast of Buenavista, Bohol.

The tremor was felt at Intensity 3 in Talibon and Bien Unido, Bohol; Intensity 2 in Jetafe, Bohol and Cebu City, and Intensity 1 in Lapu-Lapu City.

Phivolcs director Renato Solidum said the quake was an aftershock of the magnitude-7.2 earthquake that hit Bohol on Oct. 15, 2013. More than 200 people died in the calamity.

“It is normal to still have aftershocks related to the 2013 quake,” Solidum told The STAR.

The other day, a magnitude-4.9 quake occurred 12 km southeast of Buenavista.

Phivolcs seismological observation and earthquake prediction division officer-in-charge Ishmael Narag said aftershocks from the 2013 quake may last up to two years.
