‘Hot meat’ seized in La Union

Jun Elias - The Philippine Star

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Philippines  – At least 100 kilos of carabao meat were seized by authorities here Sunday.

The meat came from Bacnotan town and was about to be delivered to a restaurant when it was intercepted by police officers and personnel from the city veterinarian’s office, said veterinary officer Flosie Decena.

Meat dealer Loreta Maon reportedly failed to produce documents for the transport of the meat. She was charged for violating City Ordinance 2008-012 or delivering meat without necessary permits.

Decena added that the tricycle where the meat was loaded had no license to travel.

The meat was taken to a sanitary landfill in Barangay Mameltac for proper disposal.
