Poll execs resume recall process vs Bulacan gov

Ramon Efren Lazaro - The Philippine Star

MALOLOS, Philippines  – Election officers in Bulacan yesterday continued verifying signatures of petitioners seeking the recall of Gov. Wilhelmino Sy Alvarado.

Before proceeding, the officers wrote a letter to the Commission on Elections (Comelec), explaining their predicament in the conduct of the recall process.

Julio Nicanor Guinto, election officer of Malolos who serves as the group’s spokesman, said the process caused them physical, mental and emotional stress.

Guinto said the proceedings exposed them to harassment and threats.

The group is asking the Comelec to consider  if the process is worth the sacrifice and danger they are facing.

“We are caught not only in the middle of a legal dispute between two warring political camps, but also in the crossfire as we face several lawsuits from both camps and all types of harassment,” the group said.
