MANILA, Philippines - A communist rebel was killed on Tuesday as Army troops caught up with the New People’s Army (NPA) rebels who burned trucks and ambushed policemen in Bukidnon last Sunday.
Maj. Christian Uy, spokesman for the Army’s 4th infantry division, said the rebel was killed in the first encounter that occurred in Sitio Kipolot in Barangay Palacapao at 2:25 a.m. Soldiers recovered two M16 rifles and an AK-47.
There was no reported casualty in the five-minute clash that erupted in Sitio Bagong Lipunan in Barangay Linabo at 5:30 a.m.
Col. Jesse Alvarez, chief of the Army’s 403rd Infantry Brigade, said they would continue to hunt down the rebels in the area.
