Signatures in Palawan mayor’s recall case exceed requirement

Michelle Zoleta - The Philippine Star

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Philippines – The number of verified signatures in the recall petition against Puerto Princesa City Mayor Lucilo Bayron have exceeded the required percentage for the electoral process.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) here has verified 24,413 “clean signatures” – more than the required 15 percent or 19,335 signatures of the city’s registered voters, petitioner Alroben Goh Goh said yesterday.

Goh said they are waiting for the decision of the entire poll body on the result of the verification process.

Bayron reportedly tried to stop the last day of the verification on Feb. 28 when he barged into the Comelec office and tore the Comelec resolution, which extended the process.

A video of Bayron’s action was posted on the Internet.

Goh’s group filed the recall petition last year, citing loss of trust and confidence over the drop in revenues and the increasing crime rate in the city.
