Bike race held for slain SAF troopers
CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, Philippines – At least 600 members of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and civilian cyclists joined a “bike-for-a-cause” marking the 44th day of the death of 44 Special Action Force (SAF) commandos here yesterday.
The event, which started at 5 a.m., was spearheaded by Chief Superintendent Ronald Santos, officer-in-charge of the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO-3), and the Pampanga Delta Bikers.
The cyclists assembled in front of the PRO-3 parade grounds and went around the towns of Sto. Tomas, San Simon, Apalit, Macabebe and Masantol, Chief Inspector Chery Lou Donato, spokesperson for the regional police office, said.
Donato said a short program was held in front of the St. Michael Parish Church in Masantol before the cyclists returned to Camp Olivas for their final lap.
Santos said funds generated by the activity would be given to the commandos’ families.
