MANILA, Philippines - Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas has ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP) to procure mobile units with closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras to secure big annual events in the country.
Roxas said that the mobile CCTV cameras should transmit images to the mobile command posts, which will then send the images to either the district police offices or the National Headquarters of the PNP in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
He said this will enable the PNP to immediately address problems commonly encountered during crowd-drawer events in the country such as the President’s State of the National Address, which is delivered every fourth Monday of July; the EDSA People Power Revolution every February 25; and the Feast of the Black Nazarene every January 9.
Roxas also ordered the installation of additional CCTVs in all 38 police stations in Metro Manila.
He earlier tasked PNP officials to meet with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority officials to maximize the use of their 210 CCTVs installed in different areas in the metropolis.
He said the coordinated efforts by the MMDA and the PNP can make for better and more effective customized police operations in high crime areas.
