Suspect in ex-lawmaker kin’s slay surrenders
LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines – One of two suspects in the killing of a relative of a former Camarines Sur congressman surrendered to the Albay provincial police chief on Saturday.
Emmanuel Rey surrendered to Senior Superintendent Marlo Meneses at around 10 a.m. He was turned over to the Camarines Sur provincial police.
Rey was tagged in the killing of Jeffrey Villafuerte, a nephew of former congressman Luis Villafuerte, in Milaor town last Monday.
Rey admitted to shooting Villafuerte, but said it was an accident. He cleared his twin brother, Eusebio, of any involvement in the crime.
The shooting was reportedly sparked by a quarrel during a cockfight at the Camarines Sur Sports Complex. Villafuerte died while undergoing treatment at a hospital two days later.
