Drug lord bolts jail
TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – An alleged leader of a drug syndicate escaped a Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) facility in Aparri, Cagayan after he and an outsider engaged a jail guard in a brief firefight yesterday.
Jail Officer 1 (JO1) Marjun Malana was reportedly forced to release Larry Mabbun, 46, after an outsider, Larry Maddara sneaked into the BJMP building and poked a gun at him, said Senior Inspector Ronald Balod, Aparri deputy police chief.
Another guard, JO1 Richard Camagun, responded and shot it out with Maddara, who escaped with Mabbun.
No one was hurt in the shootout.
Maddara was identified through footage taken by a surveillance camera at the jail. He and Mabbun were seen fleeing in a tricycle.
Mabbun was arrested in November following a raid on a suspected drug den in Barangay Macanaya that also resulted in the seizure of at least P600,000 worth of shabu and firearms.
