SAN ISIDRO, Nueva Ecija, Philippines – The wife of a former Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) official who was linked to the pork barrel scam lost more than P400,000 in cash and valuables to two armed robbers here Monday.
Emilita Nieto of Barangay San Roque was tending to their store in Barangay Alua when two motorcycle-riding men arrived, said Senior Superintendent Crizaldo Nieves, provincial police director.
One of the men reportedly poked a gun at Nieto while the other served as lookout.
The gunman took Nieto’s two bags containing P410,000 cash, $60, 10 bank checks, five passbooks, credit cards and a driver’s license.
Case investigator Police Officer 2 Randy Beley said they would review footage taken by a surveillance camera installed at the store.
The victim is the wife of former DAR undersecretary Narciso Nieto, who reportedly authorized the release of P900 million sourced from the Malampaya Fund to alleged pork barrel scam brains Janet Lim Napoles’ bogus foundations.
