Inmate dead in Sarangani jailbreak

GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Philippines– An inmate was shot dead and three others were wounded after they scuffled with the guards in a jailbreak in Sarangani province on Wednesday night.

Initial reports reaching the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology showed that an unidentified inmate took the keys from a jail guard and freed his fellow inmates.

Chief Inspector Robert Gabayeron of the Malapatan police said the jail guards shot at the detainees when they tried to grab their firearms.

Mon Lakim died from gunshot wounds in the head and chest. 

Jerry Bellota, 31; Jerald Caballes, 19; and Metchel Macaso, 40; all residents of Barangay Maribulan, in Alabel town were wounded.

Gabayeron said they have launched a manhunt for four other inmates who escaped.
