MANILA, Philippines - An inmate was killed while three others were wounded as prisoners escape a jail in Sarangani province Wednesday night.
Police said that Mod Lakim, an inmate at the Malapatan District Jail, was killed during the prison break. He was hit on the chest during the shooting.
Initial reports said that two trustee prisoners, Ronald Uppos and Roberto Caratayco, wrestled from Jail Officer 1 Sofreme Autor his gun and key around 7:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, inmates Jerry Villota, Jerald Caballes, and Mitchel Macaso, were wounded when the shooting started between the prisoners and the responding policemen who were stationed near the jail.
Aside from Uppos and Caratayco, authorities are now tracking down two other inmates, Gerald Lipasana and Romnick Poster, who also escaped from the detention facility.
