Jennifer P. Rendon - The Philippine Star

ILOILO CITY, Philippines – A village watchman was killed while his relative was wounded when motorcycle-riding men waylaid them in Panit-an, Capiz Monday.

Leonardo Dayang, 46, and his uncle Joemer Dayang, 57, were on a motorcycle when the assailants shot them in Barangay Bangaan at around 8:30 p.m., said town police chief Inspector Joaquin Emmanuel Ochavo.

Joemer told investigators he could not identify the assailants, as it was dark.

Leonardo was declared dead on arrival at the Bailan District Hospital in Pontevedra town due to gunshot wounds in the mouth, neck, and chest.

Joemer suffered a gunshot wound in the leg and was recuperating at a hospital in Roxas City.

Investigators are looking at personal grudge as among the motives for the attack.
