TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – An allegedly mentally ill man dug up the remains of his father, who died two years ago, after hearing reports that the cemetery would be relocated in Aparri, Cagayan over the weekend.
Arcadio Gammag Jr. dragged the coffin to the highway with a plan to bring it home in Barangay Maura, said Chief Inspector Mina Domingo, town police chief.
Domingo said Gammag’s move horrified people he met along the way.
Gammag told police he wanted to keep the remains of his father until the local government finds a relocation site for the cemetery.
Authorities convinced Gammag to return his father to the cemetery.
Vice Mayor Rommel Alameda told The STAR that the local government has no plan to relocate the cemetery.
