CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, Philippines – Suspected New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas burned construction equipment being used in a government road project in Bongabon, Nueva Ecija, Friday.
Senior Superintendent Crizaldo Nieves, provincial police director, said five armed men who identified themselves as NPA rebels arrived at the construction site along the Bongabon-Rizal highway in Barangay Palomaria at around 12:15 a.m.
The rebels reportedly poured gasoline on a crane and set it on fire.
Police recovered bullet shells for different calibers at the scene.
Nieves said investigators are looking into extortion as the motive for the attack.
