LPA threatens Philippines

MANILA, Philippines - A low-pressure area (LPA) may enter the country this week and affect the southern part the state weather agency said yesterday.

Alvin Pura of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), said the LPA might enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Tuesday.

Pura said the weather system might change its course or dissipate, adding that there is no indication it would intensify into a storm.

Meanwhile, light to moderate rains affected Bicol region and Eastern Visayas yesterday.

“Moderate to occasionally strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to occasionally rough,” PAGASA said.

The weather bureau said the northeast monsoon or amihan would continue to affect the eastern section of Luzon.
